If any economies in these votes are necessary, think the Road from Sham-shui-po to Lai-chi-kok and that numbered 30 in the list are the only things that could go altogether, although expenditure on the rest might be cut down.

The Praya East Reclamation has never been sanc- tioned, as we have pointed out recently, and I would not allow it to appear on the list at all until we have definitely agreed to it; which we are not likely to do until we have a definite schere before us. The sum to be spent this year is trifling a mere $2,000 out of an estimate of $280,000 (Goverment share of the work.)
